MainStage: Men on Boats

Men on Boats

Written by Jaclyn Backhaus. Directed by Tracy Liz Miller. The thrill seeker. The hunter. The young, naive adventurer. The old, quiet war vet. The one-armed captain. The alpha male who thinks he should be captain. In 1869, ten men in four boats set out on an expedition to map the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Based on John Wesley Powell’s journals chronicling the trip, “Men on Boats” retells this adventurous story of masculinity, ambition and legacy with a cast consisting of no cisgender male actors.
