Ceramics Research Center
13th Annual Ceramic Studio Tour
Clay is one of the oldest art materials known to humanity, used for both utilitarian purposes and creative expression. It has recorded the life of prehistoric civilizations, reconstructing the lives of ancient mankind for archeologists and historians. Today, we all use ceramics in some form: our coffee mug, cereal bowl or plant pots remind us of how important this material remains in our culture.
For the past thirteen years, the most talented Phoenix-area ceramic artists have showcased their art during the ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center’s self-guided studio tour. The tour provides a unique opportunity to not only see the best of ceramic art in the valley but also visit artists’ homes and studios while they demonstrate their craft. With over forty artists working in a wide variety of techniques and forms, this exhibition and sale, along with the weekend tour, allows the public to view expressive one-of-a-kind functional pottery and sculpture for home or gift-giving occasions.
