The work of two award-winning local artists is on display this summer at the Vault Gallery on the Downtown Phoenix campus.

In her first gallery exhibition, Chelsea Niven says she looks to her visual art to expand a bridge of humanity and connect with others. Her use of vibrant colors via acrylic, spray paint and rhinestones is on full display in her exhibit titled "Inchoate Amelioration."

Born and raised in the Southwest, Niven has been making art for as long as she can remember, as it has played a major role in her need to create and share her emotions. It wasn’t until she had to enter an art competition at Phoenix College for a homework assignment that her passion took a turn for the best. She had won the 2019 Eric Fischl Vanguard Award. She has been pursuing a career in art ever since.

Her artwork has been displayed at The Phoenix Art Museum, Squarz Bakery & Cafe, The Black Cat Coffee House and Desert Rock Winery.

As an artist, Nasim Nourian aims to transform a captured moment in time into an expressive painting. This process of transitioning a photographic image to painting converts a precious moment into an authentic and unique work of art, a moment of quiet contemplation, a true moment in the life of the subject. Her intention is not to recreate the moment, but allow it to flow into an art form that is alive and expressive.

Nasim’s work includes watercolors, pastels, charcoal on paper and acrylic on canvass. In April 2014, her first exhibit was at a curated art exhibit at A.R.T. Market on Roosevelt Row in Phoenix. The title of her exhibition at the Vault Gallery is "What Unites Us."

The work of both artists will be on display throughout the summer of 2021 in the Vault Gallery, located in the Downtown Phoenix campus Library.
