Abby Galvin: We Need to Talk

Abby Galvin: We Need to Talk

Step Gallery is pleased to present "We Need to Talk," an MFA thesis exhibition by Abby Galvin.

"We Need to Talk" includes a series of workshops and participatory performances that tell speculative stories of struggle, solidarity, and power under precarious working conditions. The project takes an Alaskan fish processing factory as its starting point to discuss informal, resilient systems of mutual support for contingent laborers.

Multimedia artwork and performances ask open-ended questions such as: What does your employer owe you? What do we regard as skilled work? In a professional landscape that is increasingly unstable, what can be learned from the mutual care-giving practices of disenfranchised fish processors? And do those practices have the potential to become real collective power?

Exhibition Dates: Sept. 15—24, 2022
Opening Reception:
Friday, Sept. 6, 6—9 p.m.
Gallery Hours:
Thursday—Saturday, noon—5 p.m.
