Ammo — Design Discussion featuring Michael Paterson + Ian Adamson

The Design School Lectures are free and open to the public.

Ammo identifies key themes that soon-to-be graduates should keep in mind as they move into the professional design field. Paterson will highlight key learnings from his own experiences (both good and bad) working as a design professional to provide knowledge for young designers to arm themselves as they begin to experience the realities of a career in design. Using actual examples from his career at Philips, Teague, IA and GoPro, Paterson will present these themes providing real-world context as to why they are important and how they can make you a better designer.

Michael Paterson, IDSA, is an internationally acclaimed industrial designer who has led the design of many commercially and critically successful consumer products. By observing behaviors, experiencing and studying other human situations, Paterson strives to create memorable and relevant product experiences. Through collaboration with leading global brands, he has reached millions of people around the world with his work. 

A senior industrial designer at GoPro, Paterson has worked around the world with Philips Design, TEAGUE and IA Collaborative. He has earned design awards including Red Dot, iF Product, CES Innovations, INDEX and The President's Design Award, Singapore.

Ian Adamson 
BS Mechanical Engineering, MS Sports Medicine

Ian Adamson spent 10 years in the implantable medical device industry as an engineering designer and project manager before turning to the outdoor equipment industry as a consultant with companies including Nike, Salomon, Golite, Newton Running and many more. He holds patents for cardiac pacemakers, CPR training devices and running shoes.

Adamson is the most successful adventure racer of all time with seven world championship wins, three Guinness World Records and gold, silver and bronze medals at the ESPN X-Games. He is president of the International Obstacle Racing Federation, working toward international recognition and medal events in the Olympic Games.
