Arabic Film and Poetry Series

Presented by the ASU Council for Arabic and Islamic Studies. The series is held each semester and offers the larger ASU community the opportunity to explore the Arab and Islamic worlds during an engaging series including art, culture, and faculty-lead scholarly discussions.

Open to ASU students, staff, and faculty.

About the Films:

"A Thousand and One Journeys:  The Arab Americans"

This groundbreaking documentary provides a first-ever glimpse of the Arab Americans experience told through the eyes of famous and everyday people. Mapping the arc of American History, the film explores early and multiple waves of immigration along with the tremendous impact of 9/11 on the Arab American community and its challenges and dreams in light of the zeitgeist.

"Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait"

This astonishing collaboration distills footage from thousands of clandestine videos to create a shattering, on-the-ground documentary chronicle of the ordeal being undergone by ordinary Syrians in the ongoing civil war.
