Art is Truth

Art is Truth

Arizona State University's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is pleased to announce the upcoming MFA Thesis show, “Art is Truth”, by Joe Holdren, presented in the Step Gallery from February 18 to 27, 2016. This show explores, and at times parallels, what began as truth in the midst of betrayal and disloyalty. “Art is Truth” is a journey in the discovery - it is not about a race to the end, but what you learn in each step along the way.

Influential works from Jackson Pollock and Jean Michelle Basquiet have inspired this artist to express and develop quick creativity, which is evident in his use of form and structure. Holdren creates work in a variety of mediums, being natural and synthetic, using acrylic, charcoal, chalk, oil stick, gold leaf and oils. His process of painting and mark making creates an “orderly disorder”. He is inspired by moments, brief glimpses in an image or word, fleeting emotions or ongoing moods and all things perceived subliminally or directly. This artist sees the beauty in the way things shift, change and dynamic interaction, as his paintings highlight the many personal experiences in his life.
