ASU Book Group: ‘Preciadas Cartas (1932-1979)' by Elizabeth Horan, Carmen Urioste-Azcorra and Cynthia Tompkins

The ASU Book Group's April 2021 reading selection is "Preciadas Cartas (1932–1979): Correspondencia entre Gabriela Mistral, Victoria Ocampo y Victoria Kent" edited by Elizabeth Horan, Carmen Urioste-Azcorra and Cynthia Tompkins. The book group is open to all in the ASU community and meets monthly from noon–1 p.m. on Zoom. Haven't read the book? Come anyway! Authors are always present.

Image removed.Three ASU faculty members spent hundreds of hours sleuthing, transcribing dating and translating these deeply revealing letters between Chilean poet-diplomat Gabriela Mistral, Spanish lawyer and politician Victoria Kent and Argentine writer and intellectual Victoria Ocampo. There are dashes of political intrigue, profound ruminations on the sociocultural issues of their time and tender reminiscings, all bound together by an uncommon yet uniquely powerful friendship.

Elizabeth Horan is professor in the Department of English and Carmen Urioste-Azcorra and Cynthia Tompkins are both professors of Spanish in the School of International Letters and Cultures at ASU.
