The ASU Book Group's October 2020 reading selection is "The Weight of Light: A Collection of Solar Futures," edited by Joey Eschrich and Clark A. Miller. The book group is open to all in the ASU community and meets monthly from noon–1 p.m. on Zoom during fall semester 2020. The spring meeting locations are TBD. Haven't read the book? Come anyway! Synopsis:
This collection of science fiction stories, art and essays explores human futures powered by solar energy, with an upbeat, solarpunk twist. What will it be like to live in the photon societies of tomorrow? How will a transition to clean, plentiful energy transform our values, markets and politics? "The Weight of Light" emphasizes that the design of solar energy matters just as much as the shift away from fossil fuels.
The book is available for free download on the Center for Science and the Imagination website or as a $4.49 print copy from Blurb.
Joey Eschrich, an ASU film and media studies alum (BA 2008), is editor and program manager for the Center for Science and the Imagination at ASU. Clark A. Miller is professor and associate director for faculty at the School for ASU's Future of Innovation in Society.
