ASU, Mandela and the Dawn of a New Democracy: South Africa Then and Now

Nelson Mandela

Join The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in recognition of the 25th anniversary of South Africa's first all-racial democratic elections.

Known as Freedom Day, April 27 is a national holiday and annual celebration in South Africa. Panelists will discuss the impact of this significant event, ongoing global challenges today and how ASU is helping shape a brighter future in South Africa and the entire Arican continent through its collaboration with the Mandela Fellows Program and MasterCard Foundation.

On display for viewing will be rare President Mandela-related memorabilia, including authentic, collectible ballots from the historic democratic elections held in 1994.

Refreshments will be served in the Armstrong Hall Rotunda after the panel discussion. The event is free and open to the public but RSVP is required.
