ASU Peer Program for Socialization (APPS) Life Hacks 101

ASU Peer Program for Socialization (APPS) Life Hacks 101 is an activity-based program where teens and young adults with social communication difficulties learn and practice successful social communication and interaction with peers.

Activity-based intervention engages teens and young adults and provides a context to practice social skills learned in intervention. Activities are structured around a variety of themes. 

What can I expect?

Graduate clinicians, guided by ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists, will implement therapy. Skills targeted are related to making and keeping friends.

Some examples include:

• Joining in activities with peers
• Engaging in small talk and mastering reciprocal conversation
• "Reading between the lines" in conversation and interactions
• Exploring the boundaries in conversations, relationships and interactions
• Learning when and how to use formal and informal verbal and nonverbal communication
• Presenting self and communicating successfully in interviews
• Building self-esteem
• Recognizing personal talents and strengths

Who can attend?

Teens and young adults ages 17–25 who have goals diagnosed or undiagnosed. The group is formed by matching members based on age and speech-language skills and needs.
