“Begin at the End” features 14 contemporary artists who experiment with the written word. Through a broad range of media, the artists explore typography as image, text as a system of signs and symbols and language as a tool of political resistance. By breaking narrative rules, the artists challenge commonly held truths and question what is lost or distorted in the transmission of messages across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

“Begin at the End” includes works from ASU Art Museum’s permanent collection by Xu Bing, Luca Buvoli, Enrique Chagoya, Arturo Cuenca, Vernon Fisher, Jenny Holzer, Robert Indiana, Annie Lopez, Haku Maki, Fiamma Montezemolo, Lucio Muniain, Shirin Neshat, René Francisco Rodriguez and Al Souza. The exhibition is curated by Brittany Corrales, assistant curator and supported by the Evelyn Smith Exhibition Fund. Visit the museum website for directions and hours and information about bringing classes to tour exhibitions or meet with curators.
