Brandi Read: Distorted Mythologies

“Distorted Mythologies,” an MFA exhibition by Brandi Read, is a contemporary reinterpretation of Classical mythology. How we interpret or relate to stories from mythology is subject to our own personal experiences, as well as when and where we are in history. As a result, each retelling has potential to change the story and how it is interpreted by the person who reads or views it. Read’s tondi are a visual distortion of monumental sculptures depicting characters from Greek mythology. Using paint, graphite and charcoal, she illustrates the endless ways one can view Bernini’s sculptural retelling of “Apollo and Daphne” or Canova’s “Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss.”

Gallery occupancy is limited to allow for social distancing. Face coverings are required in all campus buildings and outdoor spaces.

Adjusted gallery hours for spring 2021:
Monday–Thursday, noon to 5 p.m.
Friday, noon to 3 p.m.
