"Breath B4 Brush" by Ryan J. Carey

"Breath B4 Brush" by Ryan J. Carey

The Polytechnic campus Library is pleased to exhibit the work of Ryan Carey. Carey, originally from California, was traditionally trained in the arts, receiving his Bachelors of Arts in Painting from California State University, Sonoma State.

His work on canvas combines a complex color palette, engrossing texture and his unique method of using oil paints. The eighteen works on display are created using only his breath and thinned oil paint. Carey describes his process as “a return to the human element in art, each mark on the canvas is air from my lungs, a moment in existence”. The works are both mesmerizing and ethereal reflecting a process that “focuses on using a stream of consciousness composition to amalgamate the colors into a literal representation of my breath.”

Carey has previously exhibited his creations at exhibitions in both California and Arizona, including the Annual Artlink Juried Exhibition, Sunday @ Shemer, the Arizona Opera, The Nash, Bianca Lauren Gallery, Saguaro Library and most recently at the Emerson Art Gallery in Fountain Hills.

This exhibits runs through Jan. 7, 2017 during normal library hours.
