Join us in celebrating the ASU cohort of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders at the Closing Ceremony on Friday, July 15.  The closing ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the W. P. Carey Foundation Armstrong Great Hall in the Beus Center for Law and Society, 111 East Taylor Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is a U.S. Department of State program that Watts College has hosted annually since 2014, with the exception of 2020 because of the pandemic. This year, the Mandela Washington Fellowship program is from June 8 to July 16. Our 24 Fellows represent 19 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa; they are between 24–36 years of age.

The cohort has selected five Fellows to deliver Ignite Talks, which are similar to Ted Talks and up to five minutes in length:

Mariama Coneh, The Gambia – “Leave No Child Behind”

  1. Nwabisa Modiba, South Africa – “A Tale of Two Africa’s”
  2. Marang Sanyang, The Gambia – “The Menace of Human Trafficking: An Ongoing Crisis”
  3. Bassima-Nora Mafaidja, Togo – “The Child of a Single Mother”
  4. Nokwanda Mathenjwa, South Africa – “Youth Inclusion in Decision-Making”

Additionally, the Fellows have selected Natnael Melaku Kokeb from Ethiopia for closing comments on their behalf.

Please RSVP for the Closing Ceremony at https://na.eventscloud.com/699763 by July 13.
