The CounterAct Convening will catalyze 880 creative actions to counter the 880 acts of sexual violence that happen in the United States every day (https://www.rainn.org/statistics/scope-problem ).
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to join us for any portion of the day.
The convening will provide space for education, inspiration and partnership development as Arizona State University addresses this cultural problem with cultural solutions.
• Trauma-responsive creative practice
• Sexual violence prevention and response strategies at ASU
• Cross-sector partnership building and matchmaking
• Healthy relationships and consent
• Art and design as a tool for cultural change
The Convening will launch a seed-grants program to support small-scale sexual violence prevention creative actions. As a part of the convening, participants will collaboratively vision projects and curricular connections to propose to the seed grant program.
All disciplines encouraged to attend. No arts experience necessary. Free event.
Lunch is included for those who RSVP before March 28.
CounterAct is part of an arts-based sexual violence prevention initiative at ASU, with creative partnership from ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. The initiative launched in 2017 with an original performance called “With Each Other.” The 35-minute play, devised in the spring by a group of ASU students with input from faculty and staff, imagined a graduation ceremony in the near future that celebrates the contributions of ASU students toward creating “a culture of healthy sexuality and consent on campus.”
