Data Science Open Lab

Repeats every other Wednesday starting on September 9 2020 until November 18 2020

Learn the ins and outs of data science, and get connected with experts, collaborators and compelling projects! 

Students, faculty and staff, of all levels and disciplines, are welcome to attend all-virtual open lab workshops offered by the ASU Library's Unit for Data Science and Analytics. Open Lab is an opportunity to network, seek mentors and projects, gain skills and work on real-world problems using data science.

Join us for this biweekly, all-virtual event, every other Wednesday during the Fall 2020 semester:

Sept. 9: Kickoff & Natural Language Processing
Discuss the interactions between computers and human languages, in particular how computers process and analyze large amounts of natural language data.

Sept. 23: Statistics in Data Science
Understand the basic principles of probability and distribution, and identify the significance in hypothesis testing.

Oct. 7: Pattern Recognition
Learn how to draw conclusions from results.

Oct. 23: Data Visualization
Cover techniques and approaches to statistical data visualization, and explore ways to use graphics in both research and presentation.

Nov. 4: Model Selection
Learn how to identify a suitable algorithm and/or modeling technique that is appropriate to the data and problem statement. Pros and cons of various methods will be reviewed, and appropriate applications to use will be explored.

Nov. 18: Introduction to Machine Learning
Learn the concepts of machine learning, using a computer to perform a task.
