Defining Dementia: Progression, Treatment and Strategies

Barbara Klauser and Lori Nisson will review the basics of dementia from the various types to progression and treatments available. Most importantly, you will learn essential strategies to avoid many of the unwanted behaviors that arise due to the demands of the illness. 

Barbara Klauser is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare environment, primarily here in Arizona. She has experience across the continuum of care to include acute care settings, home-based services and outpatient clinics. Her areas of expertise are palliative care, oncology and neurological conditions. 

Lori Nisson is a licensed clinical social worker and is the Family & Community Services Director at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Banner Sun Health Research Institute. She has spent more than 20 years specializing in leadership and clinical positions, serving the needs of patients and families coping with emotional, cognitive and behavioral problems. Nisson also serves on the Desert Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association Leadership Council.
