Environmental Justice: Indigenous Communities
Violence against the Earth and violence against Indigenous peoples are intricately connected. Those in positions of power abuse Indigenous peoples so that they can take advantage of their resources. As such, Indigenous peoples are consistent, historical allies to Environmental Justice movements. Yet, even though they are central to the Environmentalist Movement, their voices are too often decentralized and focused toward white, affluent voices. In this program, we will critically engage the ways in which Indigenous peoples are disproportionately impacted by Environmental Racism and disproportionately ignored within the Environmentalist Movement and more broadly discuss the intersection of Environmental Justice and Justice for Indigenous peoples
