Every Word has its Shadow
Prompted by a quick succession of life-changing events and a deep curiosity to understand the contexts of contemporary thought, Shawn Barker’s photographs take a wonder-filled journey through themes of birth, death, danger, materiality, entropy and our situation within the cosmos.
The underlying influences for the work are an intense desire to understand what it means to be human and how meaning is simultaneously manifest and constructed through daily life. The result of these investigations has taken the form of a photo-book titled, "Every Word has its Shadow," from which this exhibition takes its images and title.
Shawn Barker is a Master of Fine Arts candidate in photography.
