Good Reasons for Bad Feelings: Can Evolutionary Thinking Relieve Psychiatry’s Troubles?

Good Reasons for Bad Feelings: Can Evolutionary Thinking Relieve Psychiatry’s Troubles?

This event is the USA launch for Randolph Nesse’s new book, "Good Reasons for Bad Feelings: Insights from the Frontier of Evolutionary Psychiatry," just published by Dutton (Penguin Random House). The book argues that evolutionary biology provides a missing foundation for psychiatry that can resolve persistent controversies and lead to new research and treatments. Dr. Nesse will provide a brief overview, then three distinguished panelists will address the question “Can Evolutionary Thinking Relieve Psychiatry’s Troubles?”

Panelists include:

Randolph Nesse, foundation professor and director of the Center for Evolution and Medicine at ASU, president of the International Society for Evolution, Medicine and Public Health

Douglas Kenrick, PhD, professor of psychology at ASU, and president of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society

Joan Silk, professor of anthropology at ASU and a world-renowned evolutionary primatologist.

Cynthia Stonnington, MD, professor and chair of psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale
