Good Reasons for Bad Feelings: Can Evolutionary Thinking Relieve Psychiatry’s Troubles?
This event is the USA launch for Randolph Nesse’s new book, "Good Reasons for Bad Feelings: Insights from the Frontier of Evolutionary Psychiatry," just published by Dutton (Penguin Random House). The book argues that evolutionary biology provides a missing foundation for psychiatry that can resolve persistent controversies and lead to new research and treatments. Dr. Nesse will provide a brief overview, then three distinguished panelists will address the question “Can Evolutionary Thinking Relieve Psychiatry’s Troubles?”
Panelists include:
• Randolph Nesse, foundation professor and director of the Center for Evolution and Medicine at ASU, president of the International Society for Evolution, Medicine and Public Health
• Douglas Kenrick, PhD, professor of psychology at ASU, and president of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society
• Joan Silk, professor of anthropology at ASU and a world-renowned evolutionary primatologist.
• Cynthia Stonnington, MD, professor and chair of psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale
