The Great American Graphic Novel

The Great American Graphic Novel

Mark Siegel is an award-winning illustrator and author of several children’s picture books and graphic novels, including the New York Times bestseller "Sailor Twain, or The Mermaid in the Hudson." Siegel is the founder and editorial director of First Second Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers that creates graphic novels for every age category, in a wide range of themes and styles, with talent from all over the world.

In this lecture, Siegel will discuss the history of comics and graphic novels, the creative process, and the importance of this medium as a tool for literacy in an increasingly visual culture.

This event is hosted by the Center for Science and the Imagination and the Institute for Humanities Research.
