Mars on the National Mall

Mars on the National Mall

On Oct. 18–19, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, ASU's Walk on Mars program will be hosting Mars on the National Mall on the 12th Street Walkway on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This project, funded by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) as part of its Centennial celebration and facilitated through the ASU Walk on Mars program, offers the opportunity to share major discoveries we’ve made while exploring Mars.

The 2001 Mars Odyssey spacecraft's THEMIS camera has acquired images of Mars for more than 16 years. Through this footage, the Walk on Mars program has compiled 24,000 high-quality images into a global mosaic and printed them at full-resolution on a walkable basketball court-size vinyl mat (the world’s largest printed map of Mars!).

We welcome everyone to join us at this event to Walk on Mars alongside ASU scientists to explore Martian geography and learn about the history of Mars exploration. Mars scientist and project lead Jonathon Hill, from the ASU School of Earth and Space Exploration and AGU staff will be available on site to answer questions.
