'The Miracle' Film Screening
“The Miracle,” shot in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1997, is a fictional documentary directed by Tuomas Sallinen about an American TV journalist who goes to Russia with the impossible assignment of filming a miracle. It explores religious and spiritual life in post-Soviet Russia, and the pressures for journalists to come up with sensational stories.
With an introduction by Steven Beschloss, an award-winning writer, journalist and filmmaker. His articles and essays have been published by The New Yorker, The New York Times, The New Republic, Smithsonian, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Traveler and dozens of others. In addition to writing and producing fiction and nonfiction films in New York, Los Angeles, Finland, Russia and France, he’s authored two books. These include "The Gunman and His Mother: Lee Harvey Oswald, Marguerite Oswald, and The Making of an Assassin,” which is the basis for a multipart television series now in development. Beschloss currently serves at ASU as a Senior Director of Narrative Development and a journalism professor of practice.
