Nano Stern

Nano Stern

Nano Stern is raising his vibration through sharing his music. Tolerance, justice, diversity, human rights and positive energy are the backbone of his sound. A Chilean indie folk-rock singer/songwriter leading the new wave of Chilean song, his devoted following stretches from South America to North America and from Europe to Australia.

What his vast body of fans and social media followers know is that his musical virtuosity, charismatic live performances and passionate advocacy for current social justice issues result in a true and honest universal message. Progressive thinkers, activists, healers and those hungry for positive change are drawn into his spirit and energy; his shows are known for being the kind of gathering audiences leave and say, "I needed that." Sharing his space and feeling his vibration can be a healing experience. He is purposefully creating light for times of great darkness. He is motivating and mobilizing a new generation of social changers.

Overwhelmingly supported and championed by Joan Baez, herself a legendary singer/songwriter and activist icon, Stern has an incredible following worldwide. His lyrics and message are urgent, honest and of our time. He was the lone Latin artist invited to perform at Baez's 75th birthday celebration concert in NYC. His duet of Chilean singer/songwriter Violeta Parra's "Gracias a la Vida" with Baez was easily the highlight of the night and allowed him to showcase his skill as a singer, guitarist and violinist in a single song.

"I am extremely respectful of the tradition,” explains Stern, “It is an enormous gift we received from the people of the past.”

What has emerged is a powerhouse artist, brilliantly layering indigenous, African and European elements into a sound all his own, humbly bringing audiences to tears, to their feet, and to reverie with a singular kind of emotion and soulfulness unlike any other South American artist performing today.

“I’m generally working to create a language of my own,” says Nano.

Agile across a range of instruments, (Spanish and electric guitars, violin, piano and Andean & Nordic flutes), Nano’s closest companions remain simply his acoustic guitar and staggering vocals, and with them come fluent, extraordinary musicianship and a wide-open heart all of which creates a rousing connection to his audiences.

Oscillating between the personal and the political, outspoken, passionate, and experimental, it is perhaps Nano himself who captures his musical ethic best when remarking, “In the measure that I’m able to vibrate strongly, other people will resonate. If that frequency is intense, other things around it will vibrate together with it. Music in the end is that. We can put aside words, and genre, and tradition. In the end, it is all about a movement of air that makes our bodies move. It’s the most mysterious thing.”

“Nano Stern is the best Chilean singer-songwriter of his generation, with his lyrics, melodies, message, humor and heart.” --Joan Baez

"Stern's years of performing outside Spanish‐speaking countries have turned him into an incredibly skilled communicator, allowing audiences who do not share his native language to connect with his music through his energy, passion and humour."
--Arts & Culture, Brunswick, Australia

"The new songs confirm Stern as one of the most powerful voices to have emerged in Chile since the legendary Victor Jara."
--Tony Hillier, Rhythm Magazine (review of Las Torres de Sal)

"The prodigiously talented Nano Stern represents a new generation of Chilean musicians who is making an enormous contribution to Chilean music, by adding to the library of music and broadening its musical language with his references to other musical idioms and also by introducing extensive improvisational techniques and memorable soli on guitar, violin and piano."
--Raul de Gama, World Music Report
