Photographer Paul J. Smith on the studio crafts movement

Paul J. Smith

Legendary curator and museum director Paul J. Smith has spent his career creating exhibitions and supporting the careers of artists who have come to define the contemporary studio craft movement.

Smith will present his reflections on the studio craft movement at a free lecture on Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the ASU Art Museum Brickyard. He will be visiting Tempe as the honored guest at Ceram-A-Rama, the ASU Art Museum’s biennial celebration of all things clay in the Phoenix area, and in conjunction with the exhibition "Paul J. Smith Portraits: A Photographic Journal of the Ceramic Community." The exhibition pairs a portfolio of 20 of Smith’s portraits with works from the museum’s unparalleled collection of contemporary ceramics.

The exhibition is supported by members of the ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center.

If you would like to bring your class or group to see an exhibition or collection, and/or meet with a curator, please contact Andrea Feller, Curator of Education at andrea.feller@asu.edu.
