Internships, paid employment and elite referrals start with a simple handshake. Languages and Cultures faculty member Dawn Penich-Thacker invites any interested ASU students, faculty or staff to attend her ENG 301: Writing in the Professions course on days in which guest speakers come in, for the series “Pro Tips: Communicating for Career Success.”

Hear stories and get advice from top professionals in fields like political strategy, sustainability, women's advocacy, nonprofit, health care and real estate. Learn how industry leaders transitioned from sometimes-unrelated college majors to dream careers and what role communication skills play in their day-to-day lives.

All sessions are held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in University Center Building (UCENT), Room 282, on ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.

Fall presentations feature:

Sept. 25:  Corey Woods, ASU Preparatory Academy and former vice mayor of Tempe

Oct. 16:  Paul Bentz, Highground Public Affairs & Political Consulting

Oct. 30:  Stacey Champion, Champion PR & Marketing

Nov. 13:  Dr. Natasha Bhuyan, Planned Parenthood of America
