Really, Pa? Luis Miguel

Really, Pa? Luis Miguel

Let's talk about "Luis Miguel," the Netflix series about the life of the singer by the same name, which just finished its second season.

The series opens a conversation about the fluidity of identities and cultures that link Mexico with the United States. Think of those moments in the series that cross borders: the roles played by Aspen, Las Vegas, New York, Miami… not to mention Puerto Rico, where “el Sol de México” is born. And think of Erika's character, played by actress Camila Sodi, who feels equally at home in Mexico as she does in the United States.

Beyond the plot of "Luis Miguel", the phenomenon of the series itself is an example of the fluidity and cultural convergence between Mexican and U.S. markets. Platforms such as Netflix (which aspires to be a ‘global television channel’) and Amazon Prime have helped to minimize the border between the two entertainment markets.

And then, of course, there is the music itself, and the timeless debate about the pressure and opportunity that many music stars in the Spanish-speaking world face to produce records in English (and vice versa).

Join us on Tuesday, June 15 to explore these topics and more. Panelists include Camila Sodi (actress), Bruce Boren, (CEO of THR3 Media Group, former CEO of Televisa Networks and Blim) and Hamurabi Castro (country manager of ONErpm Mexico). Andrés Martinez, professor at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will moderate.

The conversation will be in Spanish.
