Seeking Justice in Arizona: 'Combatting the School to Prison Pipeline in Arizona Schools'

Join us for the second event in our 2018 Seeking Justice in Arizona lecture series, "Combatting the School to Prison Pipeline in Arizona Schools."

The lecture will be given by Anabel Maldonado, lead organizer for ACLU of Arizona's #Demand2Learn.

Anabel Maldonado is the lead organizer for ACLU of Arizona’s #Demand2Learn campaign, which is aimed at ending systematic practices that cause students to be pushed out of schools. Maldonado is also a board member of Trans Queer Pueblo, an organization that serves migrant LGBTQ+ community through health and legal clinics, arts activism and housing for trans people coming out of immigration detention. Prior to her work with #Demand2Learn, Maldonado served as Maricopa County field director for Proposition 206, which increased the state’s minimum wage and gave over one million families paid sick time. She also worked for the Arizona Wins Coalition, where she helped design and implement a legislative advocacy program. She is an alumna of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, where she spent a year working on Capitol Hill advocating for her community, and the New American Leaders Project, which trains first and second generation Americans to run for political office.
