So, You Want to go to Graduate School? Navigating the Process

College of Integrative Sciences and Arts assistant professor Steven Saul will discuss what students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in biology, ecology, natural resource management and related fields can expect in a graduate program. Topics will include:

1) What to expect: your roles and responsibilities as a master’s and doctoral student

2) Course work: what and how much to expect

3) Who is your boss? How to research and select an advisor/mentor

4) Admissions: tips and tricks to greatly improve your chances

5) The vow of poverty: how to pay

6) Research: the fun part

7) Writing and publishing

8) Challenges, obstacles and words of wisdom

Steve Saul joined ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts in 2016 after earning doctoral and master’s degrees at the University of Miami and working as a senior research scientist at Nova Southeastern University and as a research fisheries assessment biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Miami. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Richmond in environmental science and music.
