Surfacing

"Surfacing," an MFA thesis exhibition by wood and metal sculptor Lia (Birdie) Clark, takes a temporal, narrative dive into the body to visualize and release "big T" traumas. Works are attempts at giving visual agency and grounding to the maelstrom within the mind, illustrating the instances, processing and behaviors associated. The formally trained botanist manipulates the anatomical and morphological structure of wood to stress the importance of complexity and the time it takes to form, understand, express and trust the process.
