Unfreedom Reading Group with Hannah Barker, Part 2

Unfreedom Reading Group with Hannah Barker

The Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies invites you to participate in a reading group on the topic of Unfreedom, organized in anticipation of our 2020 annual conference.

At our second meeting on Nov. 21, we will discuss the intersections of unfreedom, race, and gender which have occupied the attention of our plenary speakers, Jennifer Morgan and Omar Ali.

About Hannah Barker

The discussion will be led by Hannah Barker, a specialist in the history of slavery in the late medieval Mediterranean and an assistant professor in the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies. Barker’s research has focused on the trade in slaves from the Black Sea to the markets of Genoa, Venice and Cairo during the 13th through 15th centuries, drawing on sources in both Latin and Arabic.
