America at 250: Past, Present, Possible | Jon Meacham Joins Michael Crow

DIALOGUES FOR DEMOCRACY 2026-2027

As America marks its 250th anniversary, what can its history teach us about the choices ahead?

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and presidential biographer Jon Meacham joins ASU President Michael Crow for a candid conversation about the American experiment, where we’ve been, the forces shaping the country today and what history can teach us about navigating the future.

Drawing from Meacham’s new anthology, American Struggle: Democracy, Dissent, and the Pursuit of a More Perfect Union, 1619–2026, they’ll explore the conflicts and breakthroughs that have shaped the nation, how America has navigated periods of profound division and change and what those lessons can tell us about the road ahead.

Come for a conversation that looks beyond the anniversary to a bigger question: What will define America’s next chapter?
