On Friday, February 20th, 2026, please join ASU social work students, faculty and staff to pause, learn, and reflect on the words of Black authors during Black History Month. Sign up for a timeslot to read 5 minutes of a selected work or passage for our Social Work Community on Zoom or just plan to attend and listen. Come for the whole read-in, or just pop-in when you can.

All types of readings by Black authors are OK - poetry, excerpts of books, essays, speeches, children’s books, song lyrics, etc. You can even sing!  Choose your own reading. That way, we also are crowdsourcing a reading list from our social work community.

To sign up, you must log into your ASU account. Sign-Up Here

This event is part of the National African American Read-In (AARI). AARI is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. Over six million people have participated in this event over the past 30 years.
