Book Launch with Rocío R. García
Event description
- Academic events
Join ASU’s Sanford School for a book launch celebrating Rocío R. García’s Latinx Feminist Thought: Ideas, Movements, and the Pursuit of Reproductive Justice. García will discuss how Latinx feminists in the reproductive justice movement challenge narrow understandings of reproductive politics by centering the intersections of racism, colonialism, sexism, classism, immigration, poverty, and state violence in Latinx reproductive lives.
The conversation will feature discussants Susila Gurusami, Assistant Professor of Criminology, Law, and Justice at the University of Illinois Chicago, and Emir Estrada, Associate Professor in ASU’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change. Drawing on ethnographic research and interviews with Latinx feminist organizers in California, the event will explore how social movements cultivate feminist theory in the pursuit of justice, dignity, and social transformation.
The launch will take place Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in Wilson Hall 316 and via Zoom, with a reception to follow. RSVP by Sept. 24 at links.asu.edu/book-launch.
