This session is reserved for ASU faculty, staff and teaching assistants.
This workshop will be held online.

Session Description
This session demonstrates how to use the essential Canvas features required to get a course published and working, focused on launch, not a comprehensive tour of the platform. We'll show you how to review and prepare your syllabus, update course and assignment due dates, edit pages using the Rich Content Editor, organize assignments and understand how they connect to the Gradebook, create basic group assignments and associate a group set, and run the Link Validator to find broken links. We'll also walk through the issues that most commonly surface before a term begins and how to resolve them.
You'll leave with:
- Working knowledge of the Canvas tools required to launch a course
- A course readiness checklist covering the tasks demonstrated and discussed
- A clear sequence for what to do first when you get access to your course
Who should attend: New faculty preparing to teach in Canvas, including late hires who missed departmental onboarding. Departments may request a session for an incoming cohort.
Prerequisites: None.
Not covered: Ordering or importing a course copy.
