Tábita Hünemeier is an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, Barcelona, Spain. Their research interests lie at the interface of anthropological genetics and evolutionary biology. In this context, they have used various data such as large-scale population genetics, morphological, archaeological and linguistics to reconstruct our species' past migrations and learn the pace and mode of natural selection in shaping the evolutionary history and the health of Indigenous American populations. Additionally, their work brings the Indigenous community closer to academia. For instance, they work directly with Indigenous students from universities in the Amazon region and Indigenous communities from southeastern Brazil, aiming for Indigenous people's active participation in scientific developments on the health, diversity and evolution of the Indigenous American populations.
