Chorus of the Feed

Dec 4 to 17 | University Gateway Building, Gateway Gallery | 947 Mill Ave., 4th Floor

Opening reception | Dec 9 | 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Chorus of the Feed is a sound-based installation that examines the overwhelming force of social media within the daily life of Gen Z. With approximately 98% of Gen Z using at least one social media platform, our digital environments have become less like floating in casual streams of information and more like submitting to the undertow and drowning in emotional overwhelm. The sound artwork, composed by The Lost and Found Collective, repurposes found objects as instruments to orchestrate the structured and chaotic sonic landscape that social media creates. Each of the sculptural elements in this exhibition contribute a unique timbre or sonic gesture that symbolize the individual posts, notifications and algorithmic suggestions that constitute our online experience. The orchestra, harmonic yet dissonant, is intentionally unstable; moments cascade into one another like lapses in time, you resurface and suddenly hours have passed. The Lost and Found Collective’s Chorus of the Feed forces you to surrender to the siren song that is social media.
