We are delighted to invite you to view "Collecting Devotion: Temples to Jinas", a photo exhibition of Jain temples in South Asia. The exhibition will open on Sep 27 at Gallery 100, Mirabella and will be on view till Oct. 11, 2024. Collecting Devotion documents the development, richness, and diversity of Jain temple architecture and the role temples play in the ritual and devotional lives of Jains. It emphasizes the need to consider ritual and material culture in conjunction with artistic practices for a holistic understanding of the Jain tradition.

In line with the themes of the exhibition, the symposium accompanying the exhibition explores various aspects relating to temples and takes them beyond architectural and sacred spaces. Scholars from various disciplines such as Religious Studies, Anthropology, Philosophy, History and Art History will consider the larger role of temples in helping us understand Jain ritual and material culture especially aspects of patronage, politics, shifting patterns of worship, gender and devotion, varied interpretations of built spaces and more.
