Creativity Upskilling: Enhancing PDF Accessibility with OCR and AI

This 50-minute session is reserved for ASU faculty, staff, and Teaching Assistants.

This workshop will be held online. The use of automated bots, AI assistants, or other meeting recording devices is prohibited without the prior approval of event coordinators.

Learn how to convert scanned or image-based documents into accessible, editable PDFs using Adobe Acrobat’s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tools. In this session, participants will explore techniques to improve text accuracy, apply AI-assisted enhancements when OCR needs refinement, and prepare documents that promote equitable access for all learners.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Convert scanned or image-based documents into editable PDFs using Acrobat’s OCR tools.
• Improve text accuracy through OCR settings and AI-assisted refinements.
• Identify accessibility issues that occur in scanned documents and apply remediation techniques.
• Prepare PDFs that support equitable access and meet accessibility standards.

Target Audience: ASU Educators and Designers.
