'De-Construction: by Popular Demand' Exhibit

“De-Construction: by Popular Demand” is an exhibit on display Aug. 28 until Dec. 8 at the Vault Gallery inside the Downtown Phoenix campus Library. This exhibit highlights Mexican and Chican@ visual representations of de-constructivism and culturalism linked by popular parodies found both in Mexico and in the U.S.

The exhibit embraces the conceptual intricacies of creativeness exalted by visual representations of cultural history and avant-garde populism. “De-Construction: by Popular Demand” features seven artists representing incoming as well as established artists from the areas of Yuma, Tucson, and the Phoenix area. Exhibiting artists: Larry Yanez, Art Castro, Roxana Vidal, Xavier Valenzuela (Lulus Arte), Mary Ann Rodriguez, Sharah Nieto and Marco Albarran.

About CALACA: Founded in 2003 for the development of art initiatives in preservation and promotion of Chican@ and Indigenous Cultural Arts, CALACA promotes mutual cultural experiences that are developed from layers of tradition, history and social norms. CALACA embraces community involvement, partnerships and collaborations among small and large cultural organizations and institutions.
