The Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD) at Arizona State University is welcoming Charlayne Hunter-Gault as it launches its second decade of Delivering Democracy program. The distinguished award-winning journalist and courageous civil rights champion will help CSRD mark the success of its acclaimed annual program with a dialogue on April 13.

Delivering Democracy 2024, like the annual programs in years past, will offer impactful opportunities for engagement and dialogue with communities worldwide. Each year, the program serves as a platform for visionary speakers to delve into crucial topics surrounding democracy, race, justice, and engagement, drawing thousands of attendees from local, national, and global spheres.

This year holds particular significance as the nation commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Decision. As we reflect on the visionary leadership that led to advancements in equal education opportunities in America, the 2024 program promises to be enlightening and inspiring. Featuring CSRD Director Lois Brown in conversation with Ms. Hunter-Gault, the event will explore themes of community resilience, education, journalism's role as an agent of change, and the enduring impact of national and global civil rights movements.

Known and deeply respected for her contributions to journalism and civil rights, Charlayne Hunter-Gault has paved the way for countless individuals. Her extensive career includes roles at The New Yorker, The New York Times, NPR, CNN, and PBS NewsHour, where she has covered critical issues with depth and integrity. Hunter-Gault is the author of several books, including "To the Mountaintop: My Journey Through the Civil Rights Movement" and "In My Place," a memoir about her pioneering enrollment as the first African American woman at the University of Georgia.

The Delivering Democracy Community Resource Fair, which is free and open to all attendees, will be held before and after the program from 2 p.m, - 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  on April 13.  Attendees can engage directly with many organizations and learn about their missions and how their work advances democracy, inclusion, education, mentoring, community health and wellness, justice and cultural awareness.
