Experience the Sonoran Desert with Liberty Wildlife

Join us for an engaging visit from Liberty Wildlife! Liberty Wildlife is a non-profit organization that works to rehabilitate injuried birds in Arizona. They work with anything from pigeons and quails to hawks and owls. Come visit to learn more about and meet native birds here in Arizona!

Creosote Salve Demonstration from Sharah Nieto

10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Join Sharah as she walks you through the process of making a salve from desert plants like creosote - from harvesting to oil infusion and preservation. Learn about different oils and plant combinations you can use to make your perfect salve at home. Plus, get a chance to participate in a part of the process by grinding some creosote!

Sharah Nieto is a Xicana of Yucatec-Maya heritage who lives in the beautiful Sonoran Desert. She has taught in classrooms throughout the southwest and has worked in education for the Heard Museum and Desert Botanical Garden. 

Desert Ecology Guided Tour

10 a.m. & 12 p.m.

Join DVPP staff member for an engaging guided tour that will educate you about the native life in the Sonoran Desert! Learn more about native plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert as well as how indigenous people have historically survived off the desert ecosystem!
