Exploring the Human Experience: Qualitative Coding and Meaning-Making with Dedoose

Among its many applications in the world of data, qualitative research is essential for creating better products, designing human-centered systems and understanding the complexities of human experience. Join the ASU Library's Unit for Data Science and Analytics for a special open lab where we will work with one of the most valuable forms of data of all: people’s stories, perspectives and experiences.

In this lab, you will learn the methods researchers use to explore and analyze interview responses, focus groups, and open-ended survey data, as well as the tools available to help make sense of qualitative information. We will begin by discussing how researchers identify themes and practice meaning-making through qualitative coding, then apply these concepts using Dedoose, a platform designed for qualitative and mixed-methods analysis (think numbers and text working together).
