Symposium dates | March 6 to 8
Presentation from Sandro Del Rosario | Mar 7 | 2:15 p.m.
Location | MIX Center, Arizona State University
Animation Faculty Sandro Del Rosario introduces the creative process behind the project ELEMENTS in his presentation “Exploring Restoration/Regeneration through Artmaking” at the New Media Caucus Symposium, which will be held at the MIX Center in Mesa, AZ, March 6 - 8, 2026.
Del Rosario’s presentation will explore how a group of researchers from the Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction Institute at the University of Waterloo, led by Dr. Jose DiBella, teamed up with a group of Italian tech entrepreneurs active in the public and social space and two international artists, Del Rosario himself and Gianluca Abbate who lives and works in Rome, Italy.
From the initial kickoff workshop with the project partners through the many steps of the work completed in his studio, Del Rosario will walk the audience through the process and show how artistic expression can serve as a catalyst for dialogue and as tool for healing. Through the power of empathic representation and by visualizing potential futures, artists can provoke critical discussions about the values, priorities and aspirations that shape community responses to climate challenges.
Del Rosario’s presentation is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at 2:15 p.m. In addition, his and Gianluca Abbate’s animations for ELEMENTS will be projected on the large outdoor screen at the MIX center during the symposium's opening reception on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 6 p.m.
