Faculty and Guest Artists: Novus Ritus, a Mediterranean–Contemporary Fusion

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment
  • Family friendly
  • Open to the public

An ambitious international project is set to bring the pulse of Mediterranean ritual music into dialogue with the cutting edge of contemporary sound. Born from the collaboration between Nino Errera (Percussionist/Composer), Simone Mancuso (Percussionist), Irene Sciacca (Singer) and Gabriel Bolaños (Composer), this initiative celebrates music as a living bridge between cultures, tradition and the future.

At the center of this journey is the limitless universe of percussion — an art form that embodies ritual, history, and modern creativity. The project embraces instruments rooted in Mediterranean heritage alongside those shaped by the avant-garde of contemporary music, creating a sonic palette that is both ancient and visionary.

Audiences will experience a powerful fusion of:

  • Traditional Mediterranean percussion: the Egyptian riq, Moroccan and Tunisian karkabou/qraqeb, Sicilian and North African frame drums
  • Classical and contemporary percussion: bass drum, gong, marimba, toms
  • The human voice as a primal and expressive instrument
  • Live electronics that expand sound into immersive new dimensions
  • Interactive video, transforming performance into a multisensory experience

This project is more than a concert: it is a ritual of sound, a celebration of cultural roots, and a bold step into new artistic landscapes.
