Guest Artist: Mauricio Arias-Esguerra in Concert with the ASU Studio Orchestra

Pianist, composer, improviser and ASU alumnus Mauricio Arias-Esguerra is a versatile Colombian musician whose work spans continents and styles. A prizewinner in multiple international competitions, he has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Festival di Spoleto and with major ensembles including the Medellín Philharmonic. His albums ¡Colombia Viva! (Volumes 1 and 2, Toccata Classics) showcase contemporary music from his homeland, and his collaborations range from trumpeter Pacho Flores to violinist Aisha Syed.

For this program, Arias-Esguerra performs the chamber version of his own Rapsodia Camaleónica for trumpet, piano and ensemble, joined by special guest Randy Lee and the ASU Studio Orchestra. Additional works are featured, highlighting Arias’s wide-ranging artistry as pianist, composer, and improviser. Currently Assistant Professor at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Arias continues to champion Colombian contemporary music while maintaining an international career as a performer and composer.
