History of the Future: Silent Running

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment
  • Open to the public

Join ASU’s Center for Science and the Imagination in partnership with Majestic Neighborhood Cinema in Tempe to view Silent Running (1972) on the silver screen. This screening is part of a greater film series: History of the Future, exploring gripping, cinematic visions of the future across the past five decades.

In a future where no ecological life remains on Earth, samples have been grown and kept in outer space–until an order is given to destroy it all. Join us on August 21st and watch Bruce Dern as Freeman Lowell, a botanist at odds with the command.

The film will be introduced by Dr. Joni Adamson, a Distinguished Global Futures Scholar at ASU. Dr. Adamson is a Professor of Environmental Humanities in the Department of English. Her speeches and lectures have discussed environmental justice and more regarding the sustainability sciences.
