Keynote Speech: ICAP Workshop

Event description

  • Professional and career development

ICAP Workshop
As an extension of Professor Micki Chi’s keynote, “ICAP – Defining How Students Engage to Learn in Active Learning,” at the 6th MINT Symposium at TH Nürnberg, this workshop, led by Professor Kurt VanLehn, invites university instructors to deepen their expertise in applying ICAP to classroom teaching. Participants with prior familiarity—through Dr. Chi’s talk or her published papers—will explore how to move beyond ICAP’s simplicity to address common misconceptions and the complexities of authentic learning activities.

The session will combine guided examples, peer discussion, and hands-on practice. Participants will:

  • Analyze examples and non-examples of ICAP upgrades.
  • Share and discuss upgrades they have implemented in their own teaching.
  • Design upgrades for their own learning activities with feedback from the speaker.
  • Present selected upgrades for group reflection and discussion.

By working through these stages, participants will not only refine their own teaching activities but also gain insights from how colleagues across STEM disciplines apply ICAP.
