ASU's Latinx Oral History Lab presents Elena Foulis, associate professor and director of Spanish language studies at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. “Embodied Encuentros: Ethical Approaches to Working with Latina/o/e Communities in the U.S.” explores oral history, identity and linguistic practices while highlighting ethical community-based approaches to research. Foulis is an engaged scholar committed to reaching nonacademic and academic audiences through her writing, presentations and public humanities projects.

More about Elena Foulis:

Her research explores Latino/a voices through oral history and performance, identity and linguistic practices.
She has directed the oral history project Oral Narratives of Latin@s in Ohio (ONLO) since 2014; some of the narratives from this project can be found in her iBook "Latin@ Stories Across Ohio."
She has also authored and co-edited "Working en Communidad: Service-Learning and Community Engagement with U.S. Latinas/os/es."
Her monograph, "Embodied Encuentros: Oral History Archives of Latinas/os/es Experiences" is set for publication in spring 2026.
Foulis is the host and producer of the "Latin@ Stories" podcast which invites audiences to connect and learn more about the Latina/o/x experiences locally, while amplifying voices of these communities everywhere.
